Mini Basketball….. securing our future.

The BABA has undertaken the challenge of growing the sport over the long term by introducing its first ever Mini Basketball program.

The training began in December 2009 and continues every Saturday afternoon at The YMCA from 3:30pm. The young players have access to the national head coaches of both the Men’s Senior and Junior Teams, as well as other volunteer coaches who bring a level of enthusiasm and expertise to the program that is unparalleled anywhere else on the island.

“This type of activity is the only way basketball will improve its performance and impact” says the president of The BABA Carlos Moore. “The idea is to generate interest and participation by coaches, players, parents or anyone else involved in youth or basketball by introducing MiniBasketball first at the “Y” then moving it to various community courts to spread the word and the experience.”

The association plans to expand its activities over the coming year focusing on further development of youth initiatives.

PRESS RELEASE

From March 30 to April 11, 2010, Holford's Academy of Sport will host its 2nd Gatorade Easter Hoops Basketball Coaching Clinic/Camp.

The clinic will run Monday to Friday from 9:00a.m – 1:00pm daily in the first week, and Monday to Saturday during the following week; Good Friday excluded. The clinic will cater to persons between the ages of 9-17 years-old, and will take place at the YMCA.

One of the major reasons behind the clinic is to prepare the students for the upcoming National Sports Council Under-16 Basketball Competition as the standard of play at this level is steadily declining due to insufficient preparation. Another is to reach a younger group of players and build or strengthen their fundamental skills from early.

The clinic will focus on all aspects of the game, but the mastery of the fundamental skills will take priority. Preparing the participants for the game situation will also be a major part of the focus.

Following the clinic there will be a tournament which will run for three consecutive Saturdays (April 18, 25, May 2 all day each day) to further assists schools in getting their teams game ready and to reinforce what was learnt.

The tournament is also open to all clubs and youth groups.

The cost of the Coaching Clinic is $100.00 and same day registration is accepted.

Ryan Holford is the Camp Director and will be assisted by Gillian Martindale and Keith Mayers.

GATORADE is the major sponsor of Holford's Academy of basketball.
